This disturbing report is of a press conference held by a family in Guia de Isora, complaining of a campaign of brutality by the police. It started in March last year when a policeman gave them a fine for parking, and according to the family, consisted of death threats, physical agression including punching and electric pistols, and the father had been beaten to unconsciousness.
The family also claimed that there had been various witnesses to the agression, none of whom were willing to come forward for fear of reprisals.
This all sounds terrible, but it seems there is possibly far more to it than that, because the family fail to mention that the complaint was dealt with in the court in Arona, and a judgement in favour of the police was made, sentencing one member of the family to 15 months in prison!
Comments on the article also point out that this all seems very odd, deriving from a parking fine, and veiled references to the Mafia are made. Everybody appears to agree that it all sounds very fishy indeed.
Can anybody else throw some light on this case?
