Have been unable to log on properly for a few days, so catching up .....

Monday 29 September: A boat with 29 immigrants on board, 13 of them minors, was intercepted at around 2am around 10 miles off the coast of Lanzarote. They arrived at the Costa Teguise an hour or so later. Four of the occupants needed slight medical attention, but otherwise, all were in good health.

Monday 29 September: A cayuco with 230 on board was spotted 55 miles from Gran Canaria, and arrived at Los Cristianos around midnight. All were in good health, though some were taken to health centres with hypothermia. Among the 229 were 25 possible minors. The cayuco was spotted by plane during Monday afternoon. This is the largest number to arrive in one embarcation, with the previous largest number being the 172 immigrants who arrived in August 2006 at El Hierro. The numbers involved, and the size of the cayuco, have convinced the authorities that this is a Mafia shipment.
