A cayuco carrying 65 immigrants, 6 of whom are likely to be minors, arrived at El Hierro at 5.30 today (Wednesday 18th). All were in good health, though one was taken to hospital for dehydration. The occupants told Guardia Civil officers that they had been at sea for 11 days.
Two further cayucos carrying some 121 immigrants arrived this Wednesday at Los Cristianos, after being rescued by the lifeguard services who were out looking for yet another boat, spotted 54 miles to the south of Tenerife, and which will probably now arrive in the early hours, having also been successfully intercepted.
The first of the two boats already brought into Los Cristianos was spotted 37 miles south of Tenerife, but the second got within 5 miles of the Tenerife coast before being intercepted.
