Default A Walk to Montana Negra

I am planning a walk to Montana Negra on Sunday 6th July. The walk starts from San Jose de los Llanos at 9.30 am. I know it's a bit early but as it's July, I thought it would be a good idea to get as much of the walk done before midday, if possible. To get to the start, drive through Santiago del Teide and head towards Erjos. When you reach a T junction, turn right and then look out for signs to the village. The signs actually say Los Llanos. As you reach the first houses, look out for wooden sign in the shape of a fish for the El Risco bar, fixed to a pole on the left. There is parking just beyond this. The scenery on the walk is breathtaking with superb views into the Santiago valley and of Teide and Pico Viejo. The highlight of the walk though is Montana Negra itself and the surrounding scenery. The huge black mountain is situated in a black-sand desert, which accentuates the colours of the pine trees and shrubs growing in it. This is where the 1706 eruption responsible for the destruction of Garachico originated and it really is an amazing landscape. The walk takes around 4.5 to 5 hours and is not overly strenuous although it is quite long at around 10 miles. Please let me know if you are interested in joining the walk.
