"Fancy your hand at acting? Learn from a professional. This is the first of a series of weekly workshops exploring the basic skills and techniques of professional acting. The workshop is run by Ian Sharrock, a professional actor in the UK for over 28 years, starring in Emmerdale (Jackie Merrick), and working with the likes of Danny Kaye, David Niven, Jodie Foster and Brian Cox.

This is an incredible opportunity to learn about acting and work toward eventually setting up a cast for English theatre in south Tenerife. All are welcome.

The Fiesta proper started on 26 August, but lasts until 3 October with a wide programme of events that have been months in preparation. Throughout September and up to 3 October the virgin, or her statue at least, will visit all the towns and villages of Adeje municipality, ending up in Adeje town itself to coincide with the beginning of the fiestas patronales in October.

The Consistorio, CajaCanarias and the Lustral 2010 Committee have prepared an incredibly wide range of events organized by Adeje Ayuntamiento over the next several weeks, including recreations of the 16th century with guanches, pirates, slaves, and other period characters. The mayor stressed that all residents of the municipality of Adeje, as well as of other municipalities, would be welcomed to the festivities with open arms.

Wednesday 1 Sept: 6-11pm. Ruta gastronómica marinera "Los Cristianos en 1000 sabores 2010". This is, in fact, a three-week seafood event involving over 30 local establishments and lasting until 22 September, but timed to coincide with the Fiesta del Carmen. Tapas and a drink will be available for €3 (see the poster below).

Thursday 2 Sept: 9pm. Cine de Verano.

Friday 3 Sept. 6pm. Parade through the town centre with the Banda Municipal de Arona.

Some 4,000 are expected to attend the event, which will take place on Sunday 22 August, and is organized by the Ayuntamiento together with the Asociación Hindú Tenerife Sur and the Centro Cultural Hindú, in collaboration with the Consulado General de la India en Tenerife and Yogosastra.

Events start at the sports pavilion in El Galeón at 9pm, and will run until 6.30, when the action will switch to the playa de La Enramada from 7.30pm.

The principal object of the Festival is to familiarise people with yoga, and to inform them about the benefits the discipline can bring in terms of health prevention, as well as physical, mental and emotional wellbeing.

Yoga sessions, with classes for all ages, will be co-ordinated by the masters of various yoga schools in Tenerife, and supervised by the guest of honour, Swami Chidanand Saraswatiji, the spiritual leader of Rishikesh, India.

The organizers say that the various yoga schools will also have stands in the El Galeón sports pavilion with information available on the courses they run. Las Galletas has just started its fiesta in honour of San Casiano. Events started at 7.30 last evening (Wednesday) with a public paella and music, though the first press release I’ve seen was posted just an hour in advance!

The fiesta will continue today (Thursday) with a Junior Queen Gala at 9pm, and on Friday there will be bouncy castles and games in the morning from 10am, and a dance accompanied by the band ‘Revelación’ from 11pm in the night.

On Saturday, from 6pm, there will be dance music from various groups, with a full open air dance starting at 11pm. The fiesta will conclude on Sunday with a Mass at 8pm, followed by a procession with the images of San Casiano and San Claudio. Musical groups will be performing along the Golden Mile in a spectacle for residents and tourists, with the two hour show starting around 7.30pm with a parade leaving the roundabout at the Villa Cortés hotel and finishing at the Pirámide de Arona.

The Summer Carnaval is a private initiative promoted by businessman Ismael Abbassi Rojas in collaboration with Arona Ayuntamiento, and is designed to bring the street to life and revitalize the area's commerce. Groups performing include Cariocas, Joroperos, Danzarines Canarios, Bahía Bahitiare, Tabajaras, and Los Playeritos, as well as traditional carnaval characters.

I'm flying in on 24th August by 8pm (hopefully) and looking for some things to do during our stay. We leave on 31st August. We've booked the usual Siam Park, Loro Parque. Going to go to Monkey Park and interested in going up Teide and maybe going to see the Knights at Castillio San Miguel. Depends what our rep suggests.

Any other suggestions? Family orientated as we have 6 year old boy. Staying in Los Cristianos.

It's therefore the main day in the town's fiesta, and they have become known as THE place to see fireworks on the west coast. They should start around midnight, and in previous years, have lasted for around 20 minutes.

Events will be going on all day, particularly from the afternoon throughout the evening. Thousands are expected to attend, and many will sail out from the little bay in order to see from the sea, and the council has asked people to share cars, or get to the town by taxi or bus, to avoid traffic congestion as much as possible. El Médano's plaza will be home to a Tenerife's Got Talent type competition between Wednesday 11th and Saturday 14th.

This is the fourth edition of the Festival Nuevos Talentos Canarios, and prizes amounting in total to €5,700 will be awarded to the top three in each category of dancing, singing, and variety. Over 130 young contestants are signed up to take part, from all parts of Tenerife and some from the other islands.

The Ayuntamiento says that the event is intended to empower and support young Canarians' creativity, and that the previous three years' competitions have been very well received. Hopefully, this year's will be no exception. It was really embarrassing, Finca Punta Dl Lomo, you need to get your act together, advertising that you can cater for civil weddings for up to 800 people and having your reception area looking like a pit will do you no favours. :o
