I wouldn't use a Taxi unless I was absolutely desperate. My faith in them was lost when the Euro came in and various drivers tried to overcharge me by large amounts.

I feel sorry for the honest Taxi Drivers, because they all get tarred with the same brush.

I have denounced Taxi Drivers twice in the past at Arona, and NOTHING came of it. They seem to be a law unto themselves!

They seem generally to stop where they want and drive like lunatics on the Motorway, particularly on main flight days.

The Police did a "crackdown" a couple of years back. They tailed taxis, and stopped them, and checked their meters if the 1 changed to 3 before they got out of the Urbanizacion. Unfortunately, this was a fixed-time thing, and all the drivers were warned about it. Hence, it was noticeable that the fares went down (quite a lot!) for one week, then went back up again. The only advantage was for regular users, who then knew how much we were being gouged!

It should state somewhere in the Taxi that there is a 20% extra charge at these times.

Thats correct the surcharge is on the meter when you get in, but nowhere does it state Sundays

Hi!

Can I ask, when a taxi driver presses the button from Tarriff 1 to Tarriff 3 does the rate per kilometer change and if so to what? .....We do notice when this change is made the meter appears to turn faster!...Also is it possible that the meters can vary from one taxi to the other...It´s just that 5 of us shared 2 taxis home one night and there was around 3 euros difference....

Confused or what?...

No the meters should be the same, and yes the tariff 3 and tariff 1 rate is different. They are very clever with adding bits onto the meter without people realising.

Default Biggest rip off yet

Got into a cab at the Los Cris rank tonight,,price on entering Euro 3.85 plus supplement of 0.45. Said to cabbie thats not correct, and he not very nicely told me to get out. next cab back was correct at 2.55 (night time rate) no supplement, and he had words with the one I got out of ( dont know what he said) . the total metered fare was 3.30. the orginal cab is one of the most blatant rip offs I have yet seen, god knows how much the journey would have cost.

So what is the 2.55 Del? I know you say night-time rate, but is it the starting point before the meter starts, or the price per km, or what ... ? Sorry, don't know a thing about taxis really!

Thats the price on the meter when you get in, which is valid for about the first 1.5 kilometres ((I thinK) there should be no supplements, and from the Los Cris Rank to Royal Palm should be tarrifa 1 (Urbanas) during the day the entry price is is 2.10. the toal price to RP during the day is around 2.75. at night (after eight) around 2.55.on entry the biggest trick is to use tarrifa 3 at the traffic lights (tarrifa 3 is interurbanas). making the journey to RP around 60c more.
plus any supplements they try to put on. it really is a nightmare.

Do the supplements appear on the meter when you get in (whether they should or not is a different matter ) ??

They are shown in a separate display on the right of the main tarriffa. it is marked "supplemento". it is legitimate if you have a case to put in the boot or travel to the airport or or Ferry port.
