Be careful folks.
Running a raffle is illegal without a licence, even if it is for charity.
The Bar owner will be liable if there is a denuncia.
...
We have ceased any games of this type in our bar.
John, have you found any alternative that's safe? What about selling people a piece of paper and getting them to write their name on it, and then putting them in a bucket and having someone pick one out? Could that work??

That's a raffle.

Janet, it has been a battle. It limits what we can and can't do for entertainment fillers in the bar. Unfortunately, we can't even do free bingo or raffles, although we have done a couple in the early days.
The trouble is that the risk is with the Bar itself and not the organisation that is doing it. I suggest that if the raffle is to take place in a bar, ask the bar owner if they mind first, as it is they who will be ultimately responsible.
Would you believe that you can't even do "Play your cards right" even if there is no charge, as playing cards are deemed as gambling. One bar in puerto got a 20,000 euro fine for doing Play your cards right, the Robin hood was fined 17,000 euros for doing a charity raffle.
Would we be able to charge people to enter a quiz and then pick out a winner for a prize at the end of the night. (I'm not referring to the quiz winner by this) Then giving the proceeds to charity.
John
