Default Is anyone getting a jamón this Christmas?

We will be, though not sure yet where and what quality. We've had one the last two years and they're delicious, though I have a limit to how much I can eat of it.

The other J, however, has no limit! It's his one concession to Navidad!!

What about you? Having one? What sort? Where?

I must say I don't like the look of them, I wouldn't buy one but I'd try the meat.

It's one of these, Bren. Basically a leg of cured ham. You can get a front or back leg, I think ... some anyway are far meatier than others, and last far longer.

Some of these are up there in the hundreds of Euros. I remember being in Corte Ingles once, and seeing a load of them hanging from the ceiling. One had a price of 48 or 49 Euros, and I thought that wasn't bad because that's what they were in Mercadona ... and then realized that in Corte Ingles that price was PER KILO!

There's a huge range of prices for a huge range of types of hams, but I think only a connoisseur could tell the difference at the upper end. Some of the cheaper end ones are greasy and nasty, but it's the lower middle range, sort of 75-150 Euros that I wonder about ...

They are a huge thing in Spain, and you can't walk around any supermarket here at Christmas without seeing loads of them, sometimes hanging from the ceiling where you can walk into them ... as I think Jack found to her cost ...

You remembered. I've had the huffs with those things ever since.

I'll be bringing an M & S one over with me this year. They're safer as they're in a little tin container.

It was one of the rare occasions I didn't have a hat on and it hurt.

They always look like they are made of plastic.
