Default Payment for caring in Tenerife

Can anyone on the forum help? I know in the UK that family members are paid if they are declared to be the official carer of an elderly relative - is this the case in Tenerife and if so, how can one go about applying for it - anyone on the forum have any info or can help in anyway - that would be great
thanks

I don't know, I'm afraid, but would think that if such benefits exist, they would be linked to social security contributions. I couldn't find anything in the "Benefits" section of the Seguridad Social website HERE, though that doesn't mean such help doesn't exist.

Hi Akinson316. The easy answer to your question is yes. However getting it is another thing. Firstly Go to your doctor explain the situation. They should tell you where best to go, or refer you to the clinic social worker. You can also go to the Ayuntamiento and ask for an appointment with their social worker. That starts the process off.
My wife is going through this process at the moment with her mother. There will be a home visit by the social services to assess the needs of the person who needs to be cared for. And the suitability of the carer. My wife filled the forms in about two months ago and we are still waiting.
Spanish is a must I'm afraid. Hope this helps

P, do you know if it's related to social security contributions, or restricted to full-time residents or similar??

I was going to give an educated guess Janet but thought better of it. As we know if the person to be cared for is over 65 then there is no problem it's free. But I would suspect they would have to be residents. And if under 65, and again this is a guess, they would have to be fully paid up with the contributions. But there again if they are physically or mentally disabled????? I'm guessing

My wife is claiming for cleaning and shopping duties at the mother in laws. The mother in law has a choice. She can have a social services cleaner twice a week and help with her shopping, or she can designate a family member or friend to do it. They would be paid to do it.
It seems to be a fixed amount. The 'wage' can be paid to the cleaner/helper directly, or paid to the mother in law and she pays the carer.
