I did two weeks AI in Mexico too, at this resort
Absolutely brilliant - 7 restaurants, right o the beach, loads of pools, activities, entertainment.
Very relaxed, not at all snobbish and the place was huge so you didnt feel like you were boxed in.
The year before I spent a week in Maspalomas in Gran Canaria Self Catering. Whilst I liked Gran Canaria, we spent about the same amount of money - ridiculous! Plus we were pestered by touts the whole time.

I dont know the standard of AI in Tenerife but I know they have a whole lot of competition from the Caribbean and Central America - and they need to be competing on quality and price.

I've never stayed AI anywhere and I'm sure some of them are absolutely brilliant but the guests tend to stay within the complex and I can't see why fly all that way if you're not going to see anything of the countryside or local people.

I have to confess that since having the apartment I'm not sure that I even want to stay in a hotel anymore.

Default All inclusive....what do you think?

Fully agree, Andy! We were on the Caribbean side of Mexico and we took advantage of coach trips, saw lots of places and took the local buses (great fun, interesting people and views). Quite honestly, I think if you are the sort of people who like to 'get up and go' you will not be chained to the resort. Those who want to spend their holidays lazing in the resort have the opportunity to do so. There is no pressure either way.
As for the drinks. Yes they will serve you their own brand but if you state a specific one there is an immediate response to give you whatever you want. They found my Gordon's , no problem.

Oh well, back to the ironing board.....

One of the dialysis nurses who looks after my wife, went to Tenerife for her holidays. Before they went, her husband had stated that they were not going to leave the hotel as it was AI.

'To each his own' yes, but try as I might, I just cannot understand that attitude. No Teidi, no Loro Parque, no sampling the local restaurants, no nothing. Why bother?

I have to admit Michael on my first trip over alone with the boys, that was my attitude, I think that was mainly down to fear off being there alone with the kids BUT!!! saying that things didn't stay that way for long, kids wanted to go scuba diving so out the hotel we went and have to say was the best thing have done, I had worried for weeks this summer before going over that the kids would not be happy about me wanting to leave the hotel a lot to meet everyone etc but they loved it and asked constantly if we were going out. I think a lot off people if they just embraced this a little more they would have a much better time when they were away and the thing is at the end off the day they can return to the hotel at the end off the night or early hours. There is a family from Manchester that I see on every trip and from when the pool bar opens at 10am till it closes at 6pm he stands there all day every day!!! and its in the shade???????

Default All inclusive

Only tried it once, in Cyprus. Never again. We ate for the sake of it.

In the end the food was too repetetive. We never had a tomato for a week so bought our own instead!

The entertainment was a disgrace: adults making shapes with balloons! VERY loud music, totally unsuitable for the 'adult only' clientele.

It does make sense for people on a limited budget to go AI, but it certainly did not appeal to us.

We have been travelling to the Canaries since the 1980's, and now tend to go AI.

We 'habla Ingles' enough to get by, but see a general levelling down of standards in holiday resorts and Tenerife has some of the worst.

It also seems to be moron Brits and Irish who spoil the ambience for everyone.

I think it is sad that some people that go A1 just stick to the complex and never go out. They should take the time to go out and have a look around the island.

We have never been A1 but one thing is for sure I wouldn't just stick in the same place as I would get bored, I would have to go out and explore.
