| I think that the all inclusive holidays are killing the bars and resurants over here. Do any of you come here on all inclusive holidays? What do you think about them and do any of you use other bars and resturants for a change or just stick to the resort you are on?

| If you are on a limited budget, it helps to know that all food & drink is included. If one were to come self catering, it is an unknown quantity as to costs of food & drink especially with a family, it would be good to know there is entertainment laid on too at no extra costs. It all depends what is wanted from a holiday, do nothing, go no where, just sunbath around a pool, know the children are entertained in a club or the beach or hire a car, explore, taste local cuisine, sample local life, visit off the beaten track. Different stokes for different folks.

| Went once AI in Futerventura .Never again .We were there for 2 weeks and only used the hire car twice as we felt we had to stay at the complex and make the most of all the food and drink .2nd week food the same so did get well boring... |

| I have never been AI but had it been available more widely when my kids were younger i might well have done it for ease of use, at the time i am talking about AI was only available (and i believe intended for) the sorts of places where to leave a complex was unsafe, unlike Tenerife. Each to his own as someone has said but yes i can well imagine it being to the detriment of local bars/restaraunts etc. On the other hand would it increase employment in hotels? i don't know but i do know if you want to get out and see a place AI would make it a lot more difficult. All depends what you want, I like to sample as much of the local flavour as i can, though its questionable that you can do that in for example PDLA.

| Never been AI and no intentions to, it would be my luck that the food would be sh..e, the beer watered down, and no entertainment, although my wife has been AI before we met and she had no complaints, I personally think AI is killing the bars and restaraunts which in turn is killing the entertainers and the people who work in the bar trade.

| I disagree Jesse sorry! I have worked in All Inclusive properties for Airtours, both here in the Canaries and in the Balearics. The Entertainment supplied is excellent. The food service is superb and for those who can't afford over priced drinks in entertainment bars they are great value. My customers still used to spend nights ouside of the hotel in the local bars. The Bar Scene is suffering from a lack of imagination. It seems that everyone has Karaoke, Only Fools and Horses Videos or Sports on Big Screen. There are a great deal of Hotels that are not all inclusive and they have learned that if they put on good entertainment, the people will stay in their hotels and spend money. Some of the hotels that we work at are putting on 2 or 3 shows a night and others are paying out up to 450 euros for a quality show. Finally, All Inclusive hotels provide a very large number of jobs for the resident community, both Canarian and Otherwise. Those bars that supply good shows and have good comperes are generally busy. Only my humble opinion .... sorry! |

| I'm not saying they don't put on good entertainment or food, or that they are not value for money I'm sure they are but most people who stay AI tend to stay in the bar untill the free drinking time finishes by which time it is too late for most bars to get them in and this is what is making it difficult for bar owners and entertainers alike. I agree with you about the lack of imagination from bar owners another problem i have found is there are more and more people getting bars over here that haven't a clue how to run them or can't recognise the customers needs, usually somebody who has come into a bit of money in whatever way and decide on a bar abroad.

| I've been to several, in various parts of the world (best ones were in Caribbean) and certainly when Josh was younger, they were perfect - he could get drinks/snacks/ice-cream as and when he wanted it, without me constantly having to dip into my purse. We always had our breakfast & evening meals together, but after that, he was pretty much left to his own devices... perfect! I know it's crippling for local bars & restaurants, but there are many advantages for families using them.

| I don't mind the real/quality AI - problem over here is we are now getting 1/2/3 key apartments offering AI even though they have not got a licence to do so. When you checking in you can normally upgrade to AI for as little as 15 euro a day which is a good deal, the problem comes when you notice just how bad the food is and the drinks are the cheapest of cheap versions of the good quality drinks. Some AI should be left on all Islands for familys and such like, however there should be a limit on the number of licences granted for AI so not to upset the balance (maybe make getting a licence harder to get). It's not just bars and restaurants which will suffer but everyone... if your not leaving the hotel/complex then your not spending any money in shops, supermarkets or taxi's |
