We have been hurt so many times over here by people we thought we could trust. It has taught us never to trust anybody over here.

We haven't seen a marked difference between Tenerife and the Uk in terms of people who are untrustworthy. Infact we have met many people here who have helped us out , and a few of them are on the forum.

I have always found trust difficult .here and the uk .here proberly worse as so many people come and go .And i have found some people are bitter and twisted if you have managed to make ago of things even if it is a stuggle ...
One person i have always trusted i have known since 1984 comited sucide on saturday morning i had a call at 9 am she did it at 6 am .
apprently she jumped from a 10th floor in southampton ,i thought it was cus she lost her daughter in 2005 but diffrent story;s are cropping up .she was messed up after the sucide of jade but she was someone who you could trust and rely on .R.I.P Tracey .

We all have to be carefull of un desribles but it is usually to late when we find out there not trust worthy...

My dad has always advised me: Never trust anyone except your mother, and don't trust her with money! Aren't dads clever people?

I've trusted a few wrong people in my relatively short time in Tenerife, but I won't let those b*stards stop me trusting people, as I do believe that most people are genuine and trustworthy. I'm just getting better at recognising those who aren't

I am sorry but I don't agree. I prefer to give people the benefit of the doubt while treading carefully.

I have the inbuilt radar that comes from my upbringing. Haven't been caught. But I take your point regarding some folk's vulnerability.

We've heard horror stories, and I must say that if the half of them are remotely correct, then we were very very lucky indeed when we moved over. Our estate agent, for example, was a recommendation by a timeshare salesman that we had come to know on our holidays here ...

Looking back I just cannot believe that we trusted an estate agent who had been recommended by someone in timeshare, but it worked out. We were lucky!

I think Princess' comment is very apt, that we don't have the usual means at our disposal to know whether we are being strung a line or not. We’re all out of our usual safety zones, and to me, it's this that makes it all more risky, and increases the chances of finding oneself in the power of someone who looks solid, but who can't actually be trusted.

There's an additional factor, though, as well, in that when people move over (especially move over rather than just holiday) they will be handing over larger sums of money than they will be used to handing over, and therefore not only is the risk greater of being taken for a ride, there is also an increased chance of it being on a very large scale.

I think there are many trustworthy people here in Tenerife, but there is also a disproportionate number of untrustworthy people ... and it's hard to tell the difference. I think that anyone who isn't extremely cautious is actually very foolish ... and that's how I define ourselves in retrospect. Thank goodness it didn't actually backfire for us.

And this is why we now do what we do here. We got lucky. Others shouldn't have to "get lucky". It's better to be safe than sorry.
