Canarian Corporal on way home from Afghanistan for hero's funeral

Just thought he deserved a mention in the English sectors here .....

25-year-old Cpl. Cristo Ancor Cabello Santana, who was killed by a mine yesterday in Herat while on active service in Afganistán, is on his way home to the Canaries as I type. Cpl Cabello's body is expected to arrive at Las Palmas around 11pm tonight, and his funeral will be held tomorrow morning. It will be graced by the presence of Felipe Prince of Asturias, the Presidente del Gobierno José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, and the opposition leader Mariano Rajoy.

The Corporal is expected to be awarded red distinction military medal by the Ministry of Defence.

R.I.P. - I havent read any english news since being here, and this just really moved me -

I guess it,s because we are so used to seeing reports such as this daily on british news it becomes commonplace - instead of what it really is - the madness of war taking our young men & women before their time...

Thanks Trish. This is huge news here. The Canaries is a very small community at the end of the day, and this is one of their own gone in a war that many don't see the relevance of.
