Default Bosnian Serb war crimes suspect Radovan Karadzic has been arrested in Serbia.

Bosnian Serb war crimes suspect Radovan Karadzic has been arrested in Serbia.

At last he has been found, after twelve years at large, and has appeared before Belgrade's war crimes court, as required by international law on cooperation with the Hague Tribunal.

He should now face trial for the massacre at Srebrenica in July 1995, for the shelling of Sarajevo, and the use of 284 UN peacekeepers as human shields in May and June 1995.

He must have a lot of powerful friends, to have remained in hiding for so long. Let's hope there are more to be arrested.

Wierd how because they now want european status, that he has been found. Just makes me wonder if he would still be at large if that wasnt the case....It will be interesting to see what punishment he gets, if any, as I suspect half his guards were part of it all in the 1st place and will have sympathy for him..

I do agree with you, and I think pressure was applied for precisely that reason. To me, that says enough about the Serbian claim for EU status to rule it out completely.

As far as the guards are concerned, though, let's hope he's quickly handed over to the Hague.

I agree Janet. I also think, regardless of warcrime trials, That they should be denied status as the country is too unstable with the chance of war resurfacing between the croats and serbs. There are a lot of scores to settle and some of the ones from the last conflict went right back to the world wars. So these divides run very deep and wont be forgotten for many generations.....

El Pais has an article here which shows him at (almost) present, practising as a healer in alternative medicine. So he does care about people after all. Yer right
