Default Beijing Olympic fireworks faked

Parts of the spectacular Beijing Olympics opening ceremony were faked, it has emerged.
The global television audience of more than three billion people watched in amazement as a series of giant footprints outlined in fireworks proceeded through the night sky from Tiananmen Square to the Bird's Nest stadium - except they were watching a computer animation.

Even the giant television screens within the stadium itself broadcast the fake images.

Stunned viewers thought they were watching the string of fireworks filmed from above by a helicopter.

But in reality they were watching a 3D graphics sequence that took almost a year to produce.

Can't say as i am totally surprised, there seems to be no depths to which politicians won't sink to try to fool people and lets face it China has some way to go to join the rest of the world.

I bloody knew it. I told my other half that it was computer animation but he wouldn't have it. Vindicated!

I don't think it was a con, after all it was only the pre-show opening titles. No-one can take it away from them, the show was spectacular ..... I bet London are bricking themselves.

You can see it now can't you,

<Huw Edwards in his best BBC voice>

'4 years ago, at the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics, the Chinese stunned the world with 2008 drummers and a expertly choreographed symbolization of the major Chinese inventions given to the world, GunPowder and the Typewriter.

Here in London there we have just seen a march past by the massed drummers of the ColdStream Guards (all 20 of them) and the 40 schoolchildren you seen now performing dance routines in the center of the Olympic Stadium . . .

(that incidentely will be completed a week next Tuesday - there was a dockers strike at Tilbury last week and not all the seats could be unloaded from the Chinese Container ship - fortunately the Chinese Olympic squad was allowed off the boat and will have cleared immigration in time for the athletes procession)

. . . are depicting the great inventions that Great Britain has given to the world, the 5 in the line that are snaking around are representative of Jellied Eels, the 5 all laid in a circle are portraying a pie and the other 10 in white dancing around are the mash.

Unfortunately, Sir Stephen Redgrave the 5 times Olympic Gold Medal winner - who was due to open the games today is unable to make it, he is currently recovering after being shot by Barry George who whilst he was out innocenty stalking (the newsreader and broadcaster) Natasha Kaplinsky, took Sir Steve at his word and shot him when he wandered too near to the boating lake in Hyde Park - we wish you a speedy recovery Sir Steve.

In moment, Boris Johnson, 2 times Mayor of London and newly appointed court jester, will light the 30 Roman Candles, 25 Rockets and 15 Screachers that have been donated thanks to the kind generosity of the Northern Alliance and Bingley State Owned Bank who are using this occasion to celebrate not only their 3rd anniversary but their 10th successful mortgage application.

Not just the fireworks ...

the pretty little girl who "sang" at the opening ceremony was only miming because she didn't have a good voice. The voice was from another little girl ... who wasn't pretty enough to appear in person.

The show's musical director said it was "in the best interests of the country".

Mmmm ....
