I found this story bizzarre!
linky is there for some pics of the beautiful tigers.
A PAIR of tigers tuck into a live cow at a zoo - as tourists take snaps.
The doomed animal was CHOSEN by the holidaymakers from a menu, and served up by workers who dumped it off the back of a truck. It got to its feet unsteadily - as the beasts moved in for the kill.
Amateur photographer Chris Geddes, 31, captured the horror at the Siberian Tiger Park, in Harbin, China. He said the tigers had starters of chickens, costing tourists £3.50 each. The cow cost £130.
He said: "It was dragged to the ground within seconds."
This is sick! There is absolutely no excuse for this. Kill the cow humanely, cut it up and feed them its fresh meat, OK, that might need to be done to feed the tigers, but making the killing part of the "show" is just sick. And I'm not interested in any arguments that the tigers "need" to hunt to feel fulfilled. In that enclosure there is no "hunt".
God what is it with oriental mindsets? Not just Chinese ...

Re: Zoo feeds live cows to tigers
This is sick, but no more than what would happen to your average Wilderbeest, which is only ever seen as somebody's breakfast. Even zebras finish up getting torn to shreds whilst half alive. Some carnivores can't actually recognize dead prey. [BORING]I had a friend once who had a pet python kept in a bathtub. He started off feeding it live chicken, but that was too expensive, so tried dead ones. The python would only eat it if he kept poking the chicken with a stick. Then he tried sausages, and the python was only interested when he painted eyes on them and pulled them along on a string. [/BORING]
But the cow thing is inexcusable.

There are children on that bus My 10 year old gets the food chain but would be completely traumatised to see a cow purposefully dumped off the back of a truck with no chance of survival. Sick.....

SICK SICK SICK, this is absolutely unforgivable, I don't think I can make any worthwhile comment as I am completely disgusted and shocked. What about the trauma and fear for the cow, OMG it just does not bear thinking about.
As Janet said nothing at all wrong with killng an animal humanely for consumption but not this way.

I hear what you say, and in no way do I condone this practice of feeding a live cow to the lions. The problem I have is that I have been inside a slaughterhouse several times and experienced at first hand the 'humane' killing of livestock. The animals are usually terrified for a distressing amount of time. I'm not so sure that being fed to the lions is much different.

Thing is, a slaughterhouse not a place you tend to find the general public. This is obviously some kind of "show" put on for zoo visitors.

Yes, quite right. My concern was purely for the suffering of the animals. But the 'show' is surely just trying to simulate what happens in the wild. People go on safari to watch this. Why is the zoo different? (I think it is, but can't think why)
