| las esposas I was totally baffled by this word, which of course mean the wives. But in the context it made no sense. Men are being arrested by police, and the police are saying 'come quietly', and show them the contents of a bag. Del bolsillo del policia asomaban los plateados flejes de las esposas. ??????? Only after some search, I realized that las esposas not only means wives but also handcuffs. Why the connection?
