I´m taking intermediate Spanish at the official language school in los cris. Its only €56 for the year, but the downside is you have to matriculate in the summer for the coming school year. Might be worth thinkng about for sept 2010 though, and you get a recognised diploma at the end.

as far as i know, you can't. the courses are held for the whole year but you have to register for september... (and i am sure there are only certain periods when you can do so)
suzy, what paperwork did you have to submit to get accepted? because my friend who did the course had to have her school leaving report translated and officially stamped to be allowed to participate. and when i once asked about a language course there, i was told that yes, as a university student at la laguna, it should not be a problem... i was also told that you get expelled if you miss a certain number of classes.

Reason: .
It's not really practical either for students to start in the middle of a language course. How do they fill in for what's been missed? And without the basics of the course, the rest will be at best difficult, at worst incomprehensible or misleading.

Re: Language course in the south?
A few years ago I had some very good Spanish lessons from a Spanish language school run by Graciela, 37 General Franco, Los Cristianos. (922787136, 666513842) She is entirely flexible and constructs groups according to requirements. If two people of similar standard want coaching just for one month, she would accommodate this. Not cheap, mind, but my experience is that you get what you pay for. I found that the free courses run by the local Town Hall are not very effective, being just too large and full of people with widely different abilities in Spanish. Worse still, there is always somebody with absolutely no concept of grammar in their own language. Nothing wrong with that, but like a convoy of ships, the teacher is usually forced to go at the speed of the slowest, and the classes then degenerate into basic questions of grammar, and the classes are frustrating for everyone else.
