according to my profs at uni, this would be a subjunctive... maybe they say so because translated from spanish it is? (ˇque viva la Reína!)

volver a ... , in the sense of returning to a theme (in this case "the same old song"), takes the indicative, so the only thing the subjunctive can be doing is making the quince dias more vague, so meaning something like "returned to the same old story that began maybe a fortnight ago". An alternative is "returned to the same old story that might have begun a fortnight ago".

It's very subtle, anyway.

Yes, but only because the language is degenerate enough not to have a distinct optative form, so you have to make do with a subjunctive one...

i hope this is not going to start a domestic
having said that, it'd be great if we kept this thread alive with other examples/questions/queries/confusions about the subjunctive in spanish - it's the tense que me cuesta más que otros puntos de la gramática castellana , so it might be very helpful...
