Do not live over the complex basura (bin area).

You may see a slight rise in the little critters due to the rubbish strike that has just finished.

Red Oro spray - comes in big red tin, found by the fly sprays, lasts for 1 year, spray over thresholds, if they cross it, they die in minutes & anything else creepy crawlie too.

Wonderful stuff

Thanks folks for your input. We are bringing Broxi, our chocolate labrador over so hope to be fortunate enough to rent to accommodate him, a wee bit of garden as he has been used to a huge garden here. I cannot see him being any less frightened of the horrors than me as he runs from a bluebottle!

We had a horrible experience on Teguiste Villas, opposite Sunset Bay, one year just after they had had their drains done but that area, even the street, seems to be riddled with them. They seem to run like wild dogs in packs.

Sorry Treb but I was actually thinking of you when I posted but you do make me laugh, so thank you too. Hope you and Molly are doing OK.

We had a lot of cockroaches when we first rented a house in El Medano. But I think that is because it had been shut up for 6 months. Eventually the cockroaches left after a serious amount of cleaning and poison.

We have now brought a place in El Medano and so far have had only one cockroach.

I really hate them, but its Tenerife you will see them occasionally, unfortunately.

We agree - Daddy was at the flat in Valle last week and no beasties. We now live in Granadilla and none here - well, the odd one blown in with a calima, but none crawling on the ground. So it is definately true, the higher up you are the less likely you are to encounter any.

And, things are relative - if you were on the island 10 or 15 years ago, Los Cristianos was rife with the little beasties as well as cats, so life is better now.

We've rarely seen any and certainly not in our apartment but we do get the odd infestation of tiny ants. Well, until we educated ourselves and our guests not to leave any food out
