Yes I take your points, I think it would be great for her to learn another language and would benefit her for the rest of her life. I also think it would benefit us as a family because I don't just want to get to know expats, I want to be fully intergrated.
I guess I'm still not 100% about her going to an English school! I suppose all we can do is see how it goes?
It's probably too late for this year to get into a spanish school?

Not necessarily. It's too late for the formal "lists", but there will still be spaces available as long as you're prepared to wait it out until September when they're confirmed.

I guess it depends on priorities. I worried about the standard of a Spanish education given that the days are short and the holidays long, then of course there are the strikes, so I went with the English route. I have never for one day regretted this, and am extrememely happy with the education my son is receiving. So is this a "legitimate reason"? Also, being educated in a Spanish school is not the only way to learn Spanish. I speak Spanish and went to school in Yorkshire.

When I see what many British schools have become and what they're turning out, if I had young kids now I know which i'd choose given the opportunity.

We are moving over in November, have 3 kids 4, 6, 9 and have spent ages debating over the school choice.

In the end we asked the kids, and they all said Spanish without hesitation!

Guess we were more worked up than they were.

Yes, funny enough I would worry about him being in a British state school, however the one he is in here teaches discipline, respect, and has good results regarding its leavers going on to University, both here in Spain and in the UK. It really is excellent, he is thriving there.

Hey, if thats what they want you go for it, I wish I didnt have the weight of school fees round my neck at times.

I am the same as you Suzy with both my girls in a British school here (same one as your son I think), I am also delighted with the school (not the fees though!!). I had all intentions of putting my eldest in State school but after a bad experience with a Spanish Guarderia out here that totally put me off. I am happy with my decision and my girls are picking up Spanish but at the moment they lack a bit of confidence when it comes to trying to speak it.

Thanks Cara. I have been in more online arguments about this. i can keep my council until someone decides to criticise us for going "English", then my hackles go up. Spanish school works for, and suits many many children, but its not for everyone. I wouldnt dream of criticising someone for sending their children to Spanish school, but for some reason you seem to be fair game if your kids go to Wingate

I know I have found that too!! My husband and I work our backsides off to send them to Wingate and have also had criticism for our choice of British school. I don't really care what people think as long as my girls are happy and doing well I will continue to pay up and hopefully at the end will be rewarded with well educated, well behaved and polite kids. Every child is different and some will thrive in Spanish school while others just won't, I couldn't and wouldn't have taken that chance with my girls!!

Great Move, by doing what you have done, you have opened up a world of opportunities for your kids. Well done for being so bave and open minded. What lucky kids you have, and what great parents you must be!
