I would say that if you are 100% sure you are going to stay in Tenerife perhaps send your child to a Spanish school depending on their age

If you think you may return to the UK use an English School they will fit back into the system much easier

also if they live in Tenerife for any time they will learn Spanish anyway

What a rude response and how sad that you feel that people who don't have kids are unable respond.

We have nieces and nephews and families and I stand by my response to the post. Well done to those people, and each to their own.

No need to be rude Mrs Q ......... Sorry but no need at all,
Yours, Butting out .......

Come on Blanche, there is a bloody big grin at the end, you know me enough to understand my sense of humour surely!!

Joking aside, I have reasons for sending my son to English school that I would not post on an open forum out of respect for members whose kids are in Spanish school. I would like to be shown the same respect by those who do not agree with my choice.

That's true! You are still able to state your own view even if you don't have children, it is still what you would do if you did have kids.

I would always opt for Spanish schools as it is kinder for the child in the long run to mix with the Spanish children. Our daughter has all Spanish friends now and speaks totally Canarian. She has been in Spanish school since she was 7 and is 12 now and she loves it and never had any problems. I do think however, the older the child becomes it would be more difficult for them in a Spanish School and if a child is over the age of 10 I probably would opt for an English school.

And always, always with me in the middle of it all!!!! I posted that "but out" response in a light hearted manner, and Blanche knows that, but the thing I always get wound up about is when I am told my decision to go English is a bad choice. That is what is rude. To question a decision that has been given so much thought and care over the years. It is frustrating as I refuse to give my reasons on an open forum for not sending my son to a Spanish school, as that too would be rude and disprespectful to people who do, but believe me, they are valid and based on speaking to many people who have gone down that path. Also, I know my son, it would not suit him, and I do not believe he would thrive as he is doing in Wingate School. End of. The next time this kind of thread comes up, I must try not to read it for the sake of my blood pressure.

You are perfectly entitled to your opinion Suzy Q.

The bottom line is that everyone knows what is best for their child and their decision should be respected.

And if someone doesn't take the time to read a post properly, then that's not your problem.

The thread has asked a sensible question, and almost all the reponses received were constructive. It is almost inevitable that on an open thread someone will be unkind or sarcastic, but don't take it to heart - ignore them and think of the others. It's the risk anyone takes on a forum.
