| Depends what you mean by long periods. The law says that if you are resident here for six months or more, you must either inscribe your UK licence, or change it entirely for a Spanish one. This is what the law says: there is evidence, though, that they have decided not to enforce it in the Canaries (or some police officers have anyway).

So there is little they can do in reality. They can and will fine you though, and if your licence isn't as it should be (i.e. living here more than 6 months still on a British licence) ... ouch. ![]() Have a look HERE
