We have found a big difference with the shopping every week, most things have gone up a lot since last year. But your wages stay the same here, they never seem to go up.
not only that they don´t seem to go up, they simply don´t

Many salaries are half that Cornflake, and lots of people rely on commissions etc to make up the difference. So they don't know what's coming in each month,It all depends on what they sell.
i know that - which is why it makes me smile when people say 1000€/month excluding rent is enough; most people won't earn more than that and if they're single, they can't afford such a "luxurious" life-style. some people won't have more than 100€ a week to spend for food and other bits and bobs like petrol etc.

wow, 200€ every 2 months on electricity? our bill comes to about 60€! ok, it's a 2 man household and our house isn't massive... but 200€?
the IBI really depends on the property - on the complex where i work people pay about 220€/year
car insurance also depends on the car; ours is about 340€/year (for a 7 y.o. peugeot 106) (no, i am not trying to argue with you, aquayle, but just want to show that prices always vary)
The BBC business website has this headline yesterday The Costa living hits Brits in Spain and much of the information was also used in this piece Has the gain in Spain gone down the drain? (fire the sub editor!)
I presume living prices in Tenerife are roughly the same as the Costas, or possibly less due to the lower IGIC and other taxes (or lack of them) on booze, cigarettes & petrol.

this might apply partially, but the basic things like bread, butter, milk, well food in general, went up as well, and wages on the costas are slightly higher than on the canaries.

I don't think you can generalize on the cost of living in Tenerife as everyone's lifestyle and income varies and of course family unit size....But I would say on a 1000 Euro per month you are going to have to be careful ...
under the electricity companies tariff's for basic electricity provision you are using 1.752 megawatts every two months. that is more than a third of the average family usage in the uk for a year.
When we were living on the complex in a two-bed apartment (no air conditioning) our electricity bill was roughly 35€ a month; like Robby, I'm astonished at the report of 100€.

This will shock you. My electric bill here in cheap old Thailand is €110 a month, yes I did say a month! So it makes TFS look cheap!!! How's that??
I do have a pool and waterfall using two pumps all day (1 x 1hp, 1 x 2hp), and air-con-24 hours a day(Office, then bedroom). I do cook every day....its still €110 a month.
I hope this makes you all feel better
