Default I will never ever ever use Santander again

OK, I have the clients from hell, they can't help it, but they are bloody awful. BUT no-one deserves this treatment ...

I was in notary this morning with a couple signing for an apartment with a 50% mortgage ... just 50% ... from Santander. Now this couple have given me a hard time, and they have given Santander an even harder one, questioning and querying everything 15 times every day, disputing this, arguing that, denying this, and then back to square one saying we'd never discussed that which we'd just spent half the day talking about.

I can UNDERSTAND that Santander was pissed off with them. I was bloody pissed off with them. But they were clients, and they were buying a property, and they had a mortgage agreed by Santander.

The problem was that the terms kept changing. Every week. The interest rate kept going up and despite what we tried to explain to them, they didn't seem to understand that this was because until they signed, it wasn't carved in stone.

None the less, this morning, it changed again, after we had arrived at notary and the bank's gestoria turned up ... with the news that the second and subsequent years' interest would be Euribor + 1.75, not the 1.5 Santander had confirmed on Friday. The clients refused to sign until they'd spoken to the manager. The manager refused to speak to them on the phone ... so I and the agent rang him. He refused to speak to us as well.

Five minutes later the mobile rang of the woman from the gestoria ... Santander's gestoria. The mortgage was cancelled. The bank was refusing to go ahead with the mortgage because the clients were too difficult. We are in notary and Santander cancel a mortgage that they had agreed, and for which they issued bank drafts at 9am THIS BLOODY MORNING. At 11.30 THEY CANCELLED THE MORTAGE ... and the bank drafts, which I thought they couldn't do.

A few phone calls to the deputy Santander manager to try to resolve the situation and explain that buyer and seller are at notary and want to sign, that the mortgage is agreed, and that SANTANDER CANNOT BLOODY WELL DO THIS merely served to get the manager on the phone ... whereupon he confirmed that the mortgage was cancelled and that THE BUYERS ACCOUNTS WERE TOO.

This is the most childish, unkind, and more importantly UNPROFESSIONAL AND DISGRACEFUL behaviour I have ever come across with a bank.

I am not recommending to anyone that they should turn their back on Santander, but this is what has happened to me, in notary, this morning thanks to SANTANDER.

Whatever anyone else decides, I will never ever ever use SANTANDER EVER AGAIN.

OMG Janet this whole scenario sounds awful. All our dealings with them have been very professional and up until now we have sung their praises !!

Feel so sorry for the people that were expecting to complete, what a shame

Yes, they can make the rules, but they cannot change them ... and on a whim too! What sort of bank cancels a mortgage after they've even written out a bank draft for the mortgage ... just because they've "had enough" of their clients?

I know. They were devastated, of course. Whatever else Santander is, and I can think of a few things to call them, they are NOT professional ... or they weren't this morning.

They were petulant and childish, and extremely UNprofessional.

Janet, this is not the Las Galletas branch manager is it? We are having a hell of a problem with this bank and the manager there. He refuses to speak to us too concerning a matter. We would never recommend anybody to go with Santander. This branch has treat us disgustingly, you are so right in what you have said about them.

Oh dear what terrible stories and experiences and I feel for you.

But on a different level I think it is unfair to personally slander an individual on this open forum. As it is the Manager of the branch you are speaking about is a personal Spanish friend of ours. To generalise is not a problem but to start attacking an individual is not really professional and fair in our opinion.

I will get my coat now......

Sunny, I'm no lawyer but I hardly think posting that someone will not talk to you is slander, also isn't the post an opinion?

Perhaps then you could pass the message on that he/she could perhaps talk to the customers.
