| Hi folks. I am very adament about moving over to the lovely 'Refe' as i feel it is my home there more than here haha. On the job front, do u think it is possible to get work lined up here before i go so i can just jump straight in or does it normally work that you have to be there, on the island to get work? Sorry if that sounds a bit blonde but i am very eager and want to do things the 'right way' so to speak. Many thanks and have a great day, Lisa. x

| Hi Lisa It really depends on what you want to do - if you will be working for someone else, then it is unlikley (though not impossible) that you will be offered a position before you are actually living on the Island. If you are going to work for yourself, then with some hard work maybe you could get everything set up with paperwork (maybe using one or more of our Forum members' services to help) and some contracts in place before you get here. The problem here has always been that many many people say that they are going to move here and then get cold feet and back out at the last minute, for a whole variety of different reasons - hence employer's reluctance to commit before hand! Stick around here and have a good old read through the Posts to get a better feel of the place. Let us know what you are thinking of doing and we can give you some constructive help. Good luck and happy planning!

| A lot depends on what you are qualified to do, Lisa. It is rare for people to have a job offer before they come over ... I know of two people working in banks who fall into that category (both with degrees in Spanish). Some of the larger hotels will also bring over people for the higher level jobs. But if you are going to be looking for bar work, cleaning or telesales then you have to be on the ground, knocking on doors - with your paperwork in order. |

| Looking at your signature Lisa there is someone I could put you in touch with, with a view to maybe doing some work together. If you wish to discuss further, let me know!

| Sorry, Lisa, I missed your signature ... was it there earlier on? Babies - not my forte - so I have no idea how much call there would be for your services over here, but as wages are so low, I´m afraid working mothers would not be able to pay high fees. |

| Good luck with your new venture There is actually a thread on the forum with all our local free English newspapers. Perhaps it might be a good idea to have a look on here as it will show you the job pages as well, also have a look at our local radio stations, Oasis and Power fm as the also have online job pages. It will will give you a good idea of what is available for you over here and might give you some help. ![]()

| Do local upmarket hotels provide childcare services to guests? Since the Madeline McCann case, one suspects parents are much more careful about this issue than in the past, which might offer job opportunities to someone like Lisa. It might be worth her while contacting employment agencies that specialise in hotel staff in the UK to see if there's any demand in Tenerife. Is there a Club Med on the island for instance? | I would love to be able to go around to all the big hotels and offer my service and me being me, i would not stop at the first few that say no i would try and cover them all and then give up, knowing i tried if they all do say no. I have heard that many of the large hotels have kids clubs though organised holiday companies like Thomson and cosmos etc so it might be more tricky for me to strike something up by myself but i am willing to try before moving onto the next idea. Thank you all for your comments and feedback.
