Default Health Options for the eldery moving to Tenerife

Hi

Two clients of mine that are in their 70's are discussing the options of moving here for 6 months of the year. The big worry for them is the options on health and at their age all they can get is 90 days of coverage. I just wondered are they entitled to any coverage over here by some reciprocal agreement or is it just the E111 which only covers emergencies.

They will find it hard and expensive at their age to get private coverage.

I told them I would ask on the all knowing forum so who knows all??

I think goldenmaniac is the one to answer this, though I should be speaking tomorrow to someone who will know the various private options. Will ask when I speak to him.

I spoke to my insurance contact this morning, and it seems that very few private insurance companies will give part-year insurance at much less than annual rates, so that they don't lose out by it.

He can, however, source tailor-made health insurance packages for holidaymakers, part-time residents, and full-time residents in Tenerife ... of all ages.

As soon as I have his specific contact details, I'll pass them onto you, Tom. If anyone else would like some info, just let me know. It can't harm to get a quote, especially for circumstances that many insurers seem to want to avoid.

This report today in El Pais announces that in Valencia, free health cover for about 1600 Brits is being withdrawn. These are people who have taken early retirement and are not paying into the social security system. If I understand correctly, it effects them purely because they have retired early. It says

Quote:
Which to me states that British pensioners have rights to free health cover. Can anyone confirm this?

This story was covered in The Observer last Sunday - see here

They offer this advice:

State pensioners - British pensioners who have retired to Spain are entitled to free healthcare under an agreement whereby the UK pays Spain a set sum each year per pensioner. To transfer their NHS rights to the Spanish system, a pensioner must obtain an E121 form from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) in Newcastle. Some disabled people under 60 can get an E121.

Doreen, do you know ... suppose a British-state-pensioner has lived in Spain for years prior to reaching retirement age, and has officially left the UK. Would s/he still need an E121 and how would s/he go about getting one?

Sorry, Janet - way outside my sphere of knowledge ... I was wondering how I could find out if there were reciprocal rights between Ireland and Spain.

Can I just add that I know personally the medical and health care insurance contact that Janet has referred to. He is awesome at putting the right policy together for your needs. He can also lower the policy cost of 90% of policies currently being used. He is, like Janet, an ultimate professional at what he does, hence why Janet is now his point of contact for all such enquiries for Spain and The Canaries.

However, if you have an existing policy in the UK or abroad and are interested to see if he can lower your premiums, contact Janet for his details as well. You may also like to talk to him to see if you have cover for what you think you need. Not many policies holders actually understand what there policy will and will not cover.

An example of his ability and work in the market place....................

Last week I put him in touch with a friend who had a policy for his staff in his employment. He was paying 2300 per year. Janet's contact reviewed the policy, ADDED more benefits and brought it down to 700 per year.

So, for all your health care and private medical insurances, speak to Janet.
