Just a quick post on getting dogs from Dublin. There are a few companies that will get your dogs over but as cargo. They will charge you € 550 or so a dog and then you will still have to get your own shipping kennel. So over all 1500 or so for 2 dogs.
No body can get them direct flights.

What we have done is booked them on Iberia as excess luggage. I will travel with them and we will go via Madrid. It will cost about €350 to bring the two of them this way. It will be traumatic for the dogs with the change in Madrid but its better than cargo and then having to wait another night in cargo upon arrival.

Any info needed , PM me.

Tom

Can I just add Tom, please do not sedate them, when we shipped Billy over I thought this would be kinder, the vet hauled me right up & pointed out this...

How would I like to be given 10 Gins () put in a crate without my family, put in a big strange noisey plane, sat there for a couple of hours feeling drunk & helpless, then got off the other end feeling none too clever?

Well put like that I thought.... sober, so I can have a look about & check if I was in any danger.

Hope this helps,

Don't forget when they get here, you need to nip to a pharmacy & pick up their Heart Worm medication, given once a month, you will need to know their weight in kilos for the dosage per month (Mozzies carry the parasite) or you can go to a vet & get them a jab for 12 months.

The Pharmacy will also carry flea & worm treatments, eye drops, ear drops, you would normally need a vet to give in the UK. buy it over the counter here

We use an all in one parasite cure for Sacha. A small tube of liquid on the back of the neck once a month prevents heart worm, fleas and all other parasites. It costs around €10 a month.

Default Can anyone answer my query in post 9 above.

Do not mean to be impatient but can anyone answer my query from post 9 above.

No date yet so really no hurry but I am collating all the necessary information and advice at the moment.

Thanks.

It might come to it that hubby leaves me behind and just takes the dog.
Actually I think I am a much cheaper package.

I use the vet in Las Chafiras(Hospivet) and they are excellent(and good looking staff ). When we got Sacha we had no History for her at all. We started from scratch with injections including rabies and tests for heart worm. It cost me about €90 plus €40 to have her chipped. On the whole I think it costs a lot less here for veterinary treatment than it does in the UK.

Thanks for that. We have talked to a specialist and she said "rescue remedy" or there's some natural root you can give. They are not sedatives but they relax the dog a bit. We should give it to them for a couple of days before we leave. Again they are not drugs and don't sedate the dog. Yes every bit of advice says don't sedate.

Again we are in Ireland and the bloods we had to get done had to be sent to England. So it was way more expensive for me. It cost us € 350 per dog. The chipping and jabs was under 100 a dog(euro).

Hi Folks.

I just rang our Vet's surgery to enquire what the prices are at present, which is what I really should have done but you know what time of night/early hours I generally post so no Vet in his right mind has his surgery open then.
Microchipping is £20, Rabies Jab is £40 and the blood tests, as Sunny says in her post is the expensive part at £75. No doubt knowing our Vet there will also be a consultation fee on top. Ah bless, he really is worth it.

Thanks everybody.

Just a little tip for anyone who is using a specialist company to arrange for their pets travel.. ie, having your pet picked up from your home to the airport etc.

Phone the company up in the afternoon, or evening before if possible to make sure they have the right address and time, and get the mobile number of the person who is doing the collection (though I tried to get a mobile number and they wouldn't give to me) .

The Pet travel company we used, completely forgot to pick up our little pooch and he missed his morning flight, which completely messed up the day for the person who was looking after him. Though the Pet company did manage to put him on a late afternoon flight the same day.

We were unlucky but its best to double and triple check they have your correct details.
