To add to trebles' post, I brought my two dogs over from Newcastle Airport last year with a company called Animal Airlines, based in Cheshire.

They handled all the paperwork for me, and made the transportation crates for the dogs, which they delivered direct to the airport for me.

Their website is here

Can't rate them enough, they were superb!!!

To further elaborate on this,
If you are bringing a pet to live here & you are not planning to for them to return to the yUK, you do not need to get the mega expensive blood test done for the Rabies shot, you only need the pet passport to say they are up to date with their annual shots, they are microchipped, they have had the Rabies shot. That's it.

If you wish to return them to the yUK, you will need all the above plus the blood test to confirm that the Rabies shot is effective, it is not as expensive to do here in Tenerife. I am not sure too if they need confirmation from the vet here, about the heartworm treatment too

We also brought over our black labrador and cockatiel (don't say anything lol lol) and it all went through smoothly we used an animal shippers/kennels in Bristol. Greenhill Kennels

Good post Princess, as we were totally misinformed by our vet, we had no intention of taking our dog back to the UK but they still insisted we had to go down the route of very expensive Rabies tests etc. Was not until we go here that we found this was not necessary

We were told by our vet in the UK we didn't need to have the test done unless we were coming back to the UK, we got it done anyway before we came over just incase it all went pear shaped here and we had to return.

When we came over in September, we brought our three dogs.
Jake our old labrador (who has recently celebrated his 15th birthday)Max our laid back Border Collie, and Dippy Jen

We used Animal Airlines from Manchester Airport and they were fantastic. We had to leave them at 5am, and when we arrived they had their boxes all specially made with their names on.

They did all the paperwork and when we collected them from the cargo place of the airport with no problems.

It was harder work getting our boxes of personal belongings than getting the dogs.

Well Done Animal Airlines

Thanks everybody for all your input on this thread as we will at some point be following the advise. I know every vet has different charges but what is a rough guide price for the rabies jab and blood tests? Silly question in a way as the cost will be irrelevant but I would rather have the shock within the confines of my home than in the vet's surgery. It might come to it that hubby leaves me behind and just takes the dog.
Actually I think I am a much cheaper package.

We thoguh it was the best idea as well, didn't want it not to work out over here and have to wait until the dogs had passed their 6 month checkpoint.
