Default The big move and problems along the way.

Hi.
As some people know I will be moving mid April. I am going to try and keep the forum updated with all the little ins and outs of my move. Mainly because I'll have several little problems before I leave and the will encounter , not problems, but normal little things upon arrival that all people moving here will encounter and need some help.
I think that by doing this other people will be able to look at this thread and maybe get a lot of answers.

Hope this is OK with the mods.

First thing. Bloody animals. . Its an Irish problem so I don't think it can be helped by the moving animals thread. Aer Lingus and Ryan Air don't take animals. Iberia do but have 1 stop and don't arrive until 1-30 am so the dogs might have to stay in Cargo all night after having gone through Madrid. I think the trauma would be too much. So I have a company looking into it. Hopefully they can come up with something as we cant book our flights until we have an idea on the dogs.
Also excess baggage , we have a trunk 1000 x 500 x 500 , 2 sets of golf clubs and maybe 4 suit cases(we brought stuff over in Feb also) € 9 per Kilo excess baggage. Unless we can get the dogs on another flight I will have to travel with Iberia and the dogs and all this baggage as my wife will have enough on her hands with the little lad. But I will be arriving in at 1-30 and then have to get stuff to the apartment (Man and van??) But again its a maze and when I solve it I'll let this thread know so that Irish movers will at least have a solution for the future.

As I said this is only the start so more of it will be relative to all ex-pats as I move along.

Feel free to add at anytime with problems encounters by others and maybe solutions.

As Janet knows I dont worry about anything

Tom

One of the many tasks today along with my job is to check on health care. I have a quote from Sanitas which is OK, not great but OK. They do not ever cover an existing injury though. I have a dodgy shoulder that might not need care for years but if I have had surgery then it will never be covered. Strange as other companies do cover old things after a few years.

Anyhow I digress, does anyone have any other contact details for other providers that might be able to reply to me in English(for now).

Tom

Hi Tom I do believe that BUPA have an "international" policy that provides cover.

http://www.bupa-intl.com/

The new apartment looks very nice. Is it a touristic site ???? We will be neighbours hopefully.

Thanks Peejay.
I tried the Bupa one but it covers every country and it was about 1400 more expensive than Sanitas. I think DKV do coverage but wonder does anyone have details.

Thanks on the apartment. . Yes it is touristic(Well as good as) There is a management that says they have 51% of the apartments registered which in theory means that it is touristic. Everyone nearly rents on there. But theres nearly always politics on every complex and Royal Plam is the same.

Where are you buying yourself.?

Tom ... are you currently with VHI ? They do a VHI Global which I have taken out ... no break in your cover, all existing conditions are covered and you can join back on old policy with no restrictions should you ever return to Ireland.

It's a lovely idea Tom, like a forum diary! All I would ask is that if there is specific info that could also belong in another thread, or is already in another thread, that links could be provided.

For example, there is already a Transporting Animals thread ... so a link to it will help everyone.

Also, there isn't yet a Private Healthcare thread, so if someone would care to start one ...

Have a word with Chris at Tenerife Insurance Services http://tenerifeinsurance.biz/ He came to see me in Palm Mar recently.

Really nice man and he offers DKV Medical Insurance.

Hope this helps!

Ok now your forcing me to look up how to the Herething. Never really looked into this so I will have to figure that out.

On the animals thing , I though about that but the links in there are mainly about England. But then again the thread is not defined so transporting animals to Tenerife could be from anywhere. I'll gladly do this.

Maybe a quick tutorial on the renaming the links?

Signed the contracts for sale of the house today so no turning back. We have no house from the 18th of April. It kinda hit home then. All obstacle's are now disappearing. Just the transport to Tenerife and the storing of personal belongings left. Oh yeah the big goodbye night out which will rule me out of action for at least a day(I get bad hangovers these days)

Thanks for the DKV link.

Doreen , I'm with Quinn now as I'm covered by the company I work for and they do not carry on abroad.
