We've owned a property for 14 months now and have not paid the above yet.
We were told that the direct debit we signed when we purchased the property may not be used for the first payment and we would therefore receive a bill in the post, which we would need to pay.
We've got family coming back tonight who will be bringing any post back but if there is no bill what should I do?
Location: Galston Ayrshire Scotland and of course Tenerife as often as i can

San Miguel (if it makes a difference)
This is the one that comes out off the blue when you have forgotten about it and have to find the money to pay it i got it from arona and paid through my bank but dont know what to do when you dont get the bill janet should Know. David
Someone might need to go to the Ayuntamiento and check out that the transfer has been made into your name. It's possible that all is in order but that they aren't issuing an actual bill ... you can't set up a direct debit, I believe, until the first one is paid with real money anyway.
Who took care of all your admin and transfers when you bought your apartment? They should be helping you with this, or at the least confirming what the situation is in your case.
Thanks Janet, I'll just confirm that there is not a bill in the post that comes back later today then I'll chase it with the persons that organised the transfer of ownership.
I've no reason to think they would not have done it as they did Water and Elec.
Absolutely no reason. The Ayuntamientos are awful when it comes to sending these out. When you're next over, if it's still unresolved, it might be a good idea then to pay a visit in person and pay, and set up a direct debit at the same time.
Just to clarify and assuming it will still be unresolved ....I assume if I visit and pay in person it has to be cash? It will just be a lot to have in my pocket.
I doubt they have the facility to take payment from my bank card do they?
You can't pay it at the town hall but they will print the bill out for you to be paid at a bank (only certain banks: caja canarias, bbva - i think... a couple more...). I went there on Friday on behalf of a client - if somebody goes on your behalf, give them an authorisation letter with your signature (preferably in Spanish - I'd say only in Spanish really) and a copy of your passport and NIE number, and the person will have to bring his/her ID, too. The authorised person can sort out pretty much anything on your behalf as long as it specifies in your authorisation letter (i.e. setting up a direct debit with your bank details etc.).
This client bought his flat last year, too, and his IBI was paid through "liquidación" - whatever that means; he didn't get a bill for it but they printed it out for me and now printed out the one for this year which I have to pay tomorrow. They told me I could set up a direct debit for him if he writes that in the authorization letter...
