Apparently the course is 2 days, you do not have to do the 2 days straight, you can do 1 day here another there, then you get your licence, it can be done at Puerto Colon or Los Gigantes.
It is very basic so nothing mind blowing, just another piece of paper !!
There are also some really good deals on doing this now as business is probably slow.

Tenerife Powerboat Training, I did the course myself in May, it was a great experience and well worth the money.
€199 for 2 days at sea and a pro qualification at the end of it - where can you hire a boat for 2 days for that price? Let alone get a qualification into the bargain?

RYA and Spanish qualifications differ. Spain's boating fraternity look down on the British equivalent because they say they are easier. To be honest, they probably are.
The basic license needed here is a TITULIN, which allows you to control a power boat up to 6m / 54cv. If you have basic Spanish, it is pretty easy to pass and cheap.
Next up is the Patron de Navigacion Basica: 8m for sailing boats - theory exam plus 4-hour practical sailing test.
Patron de Embarcaciones de Recreo (Pleasure Boat Skipper):motor and sail up to 12m - suitable for sailing between the islands.
Patron de Yate (Yacht Skipper): 20m, offshore upped to 60 miles
Capitan de Yate - no limits
I did a titulin on the islands, and it was pretty easy. It takes you somewhere between the RYA competent crew and day skipper.

When you talk about a boat license for what type of boat?
Also if you live here in Tenerife you nead a Spanish license end of story.... or get a bloody great fine from the Guardia Civil if they stop you.
You can get a British License converted to a Spanish license but the minimum British License you can get converted is the RYA Coastal Skipper which is the equivalent of a Per.
RYA Powerboat qualifications here are not reconised end of story.
