I know of a couple who went there every week with many friends. One week the owner said something next to the table in Spanish. At that point one of the people who was there with them for the first time and speaks fluent Spanish got up and almost had the bloke by the neck. When he calmed down he explained what the man had said, which is not repeatable on here, but it was very anti-british. They have not been back since.

That is good enough reason for me never to go there, let alone the salt debate!

Did the owner have a wry smile on his face when you showed him these comments or did he say something else about the reason for all the salt content in his food ?

No, the owner was surprised. Said they certainly didn't add salt to their salads. I checked what was on offer that day, and if you had chosen peppers with anchovies, the salad with blue cheese, the fromage blanc which is also salty, the olives, a salad with a vinegary dressing, one with a soy dressing and so on, then your plate would indeed have had a (natural) salty taste. That being said, there were probably 10 other salads as well on offer that day.

The way of cooking meat in barbeques/asadors is to put large salt grains on the outside and shake the salt off afterwards - occasionally the salt remains or someone forgets to brush it off - but it is obvious to the eye, and if you are not fond of salt, then scraping it off yourself is the answer.

They have just been closed for 4 weeks holidays - reopening this week again (I believe) - I for one will be back there eating lunch as soon as I can. One huge point in favour of this restaurant in my opinion is that all the waiters have been working there since it opened 11 years ago - not many places can claim such loyalty.

Well I have to say I am not a fan of salty food and never use salt as an accompaniment.

The last time I went to Rodeo there was no evidence of salt crystals on the meat, yet the meat tasted REALLY salty. We were almost comedic glugging our water - we couldn't get it out the bottle fast enough.

The first couple of times we ate there - no problem. We all just suffered from "eyes bigger than belly" syndrome. We have all noticed the food is much, much saltier and I would now have to drag the children to eat there, which is such a shame.

I have been a number of times, and have found it to be both excellent and on two occasions, it has been below standard. For this reason, I no longer go. I like to go to a place that is consistent and that I can recommend to people.

Its for this very reason that we find it hard to recommend a restaurant to people. We go to many places some are great each time and others, the same as you have said, are inconsistent. Now we are loathed to recommend, also peoples expectations of a good meal maybe completely different to ours. Bearing in mind Dave (hubby) is a meat eater and I am not !!!

Although we have found some great places here.

The general view here is the food is salty & have voted with our feet.

It is unhealthy to eat that much salt in your diet, the owner can see nothing wrong, so there doesn't look like there will be a change in the near future.

9 of us ate here last night,as usual the choice of meats was excellent and the salad bar superb. none in our party reckoned the food was too salty, in fact one even added salt to her meal.overall i,d say the food is as good as every other time we,ve been, different folks different strokes. i personally don,t take salt and don,t have a problem with the content within
