Direct Telecom have stated that Telefonica are now trying to "Scam" their clients in a desperate bid to keep them..with the September deadline fast approaching..Direct Telecom say that they are trying to make sure that as many people as possible are aware of this "Scam"

Telefonica are sending out letters to their landline subscribers asking them to fill out and return an attached form. The first time you actually read the letter in Spanish..it sounds like Telefonica are asking for your written consent to allow other operators (like Direct Telecom) to handle your call traffic..but read it a few more times and especially look at the small print on the form and it is a whole other story.

What Telefonica actually want is your consent for them to cancel any preselection or low-cost call routing to other operators,so they can make all your calls go through their own system. This intention is cleverly diguised until you get to the following text in the form you have to sign.

I would strongly advice any forum members who are clients of Direct Telecom..to go to their web page..where you can read the full explanation of all this business..you will be able to read the request form (in Spanish) which Telefonica are sending out..with the English translation underneath.

Telefonica (according to Direct Telecom) are sending out their engineers to clients homes out of the blue..saying they have to make some changes to the line..once the changes are done..the client is informed that they now have a new phone number..it is alledged that this is another way of prolonging the clients contract with Telefonica.

What Telefonica are trying to do is outrageous.."You have been warned"

Nice one Mazouka. My Mum and Dad will personally back that one as they were caught with that very scam.

A Telechronica engineer turned up at their door claiming to be looking at the sockets, next thing they know, their adsl had gone off and I couldn't ring their landline. It soon became clear that my parents phone number had been changed!!!!

It took 4 weeks of fighting with Telechronica to get the number and adsl service back.

Thanks to a lot of help from one of my colleagues otherwise I doubt we'd ever have got it back.

so can one get a line installed with DT now or does one still have to go through Telefonica? I'm obviously thinking of the cottage where there has never been a telephone line installed, and Telefonica are saying they need to install a telegraph pole ... oh, and there aren't enough numbers in Vera de Erques ...

I spoke to Direct Telecom today..they have said that they and other providers who will be out there will... once it is rubber stamped that Telefonica no longer have the monopoly on telephone services etc... be installing telephone lines for new customers after September...telegraph poles?...I did not ask about..but hopefully it can be done.. but taking note of what Telefonica have said about the lack of numbers..Hmm.

Sounds like the beginning of Telefonicas downfall, similar to what happened with BT who for years relied solely on consumer apathy to charge high prices for mediocre services. Look what happened to their market share!

my mum changed from BT to the post office. Fine untill a fault on the line and then BT charged a fortune to repair it as the line still belonged to them. Whilst it would be great to have telefonica begging for us, it may not be all it seems.

Well, well, well, If had shares in 'Telefonica' I think i would be getting rid of them. We had a strange letter from them the outher week. It stated that we could get more services for the same money. All we had to do was ring the number. I said "if they are just improving the service, why don't they just do it, and tell us? why do we have to ring them and change anything?"
So I threw the letter away. Glad I did now, it all becomes clear!!!!!!!
Just told my wife not to allow any one from Telefonica in the house.

Hi guys

I've sat back and watched this thread for a few days now and just wanted to clarify a few points if I may...

Andy...

Hi mate, I know that ONO amongst others are deploying their own infrastructure but sadly they are only in the North at the moment.

Mazoka...

Direct Telecom have a blog where stuff like this is posted, it's accessible through the main website but click the following link for the Direct Telecom Blog

Mopeeps...

As far as I know the line rental charge will be the same, yeah Telefonica will still own the infrastructure but fundamentally you will not have to deal with Direct Telecom for services and Telefonica for your line issues.

Keep an eye on the blog I have linked to above because the main website will contain Direct Telecom Offers and Information while the blog presents more information on what's happening in the market and how this can effect clients.

Hope that's of some use use guys...

I think what we all have to bare in mind is that it is a massive step in the right direction..we can go on and on about the finer details of what may or may not be..ie..the final outcome overall..but just consider the point in question..even if Telefonic still hold some control in whatever guise..just to have your call traffic going through Direct Telecom..with their invoices..with their "Customer Services" to speak with should problems arise..also in their words (Direct Telecom) there will be no need to have contact with Telefonic again..once you agree that Direct Telecom are to be your telephone and services provider...looking at it from a positive angle I think it is "Great News"...I find the potential of this situation very uplifting.
