Default The Canaries had the highest rate of inflation throughout Spain in February.

Inflation rose on average 4.4% in Spain, with the lowest rise (of 4%) in the Balearics, and the highest in the Canaries (4.9%), according to the latest figures published by Caixa Catalunya and reported by Canarias24Horas.

For "items of frequent consumption", meaning basic foodstuffs, tobacco, transport and leisure activities, the year-on-year figure for the Canaries is actually 7.5%. Some items have gone up even more, for example milk (28%), vehicle costs (14%), eggs and bread (12%).

I still find it much cheaper living here than I did in the UK, but prices are clearly going up.

Youre right Janet. Ive been here 10 and a half years, and the only thing thats gone down is the amount of money we earn!!
Signed a second mortgage today for an apartment we intend to rent out, and our bank manager says she firmly believes euribor is on its way down. God I hope she is right.

While shopping in the Mercodonna last week, I noticed that most things had gone up in price a lot. Some wages are dreadful and they still expect you to live on it. they never take into consideration the rise in prices of food etc.,

Think of us poor pensioners who have to pay the higher prices and bring their money over in sterling and change at 1.24...

Don't forget they are going up fast here too. Food is rising faster than it has done in the last 17 years, utilities are rising at staggering rates, houses are dropping in value faster than they have since records began. Pretty rough in most places at the moment.

The reason I asked is that this is not the case across the UK. The prices aren't falling so much as the rate of increase has slowed (dramatically). In Scotland the prices are still rising.

The figures I gave are averages, so your correct parts of the UK will be better and parts will be worse. ( assuming your talking about houses and not utilities in which case there is little difference between areas same goes for food I imagine.

Sorry Alby when was the last time you went to the supermarket. Each week staples such as bread, milk, butter etc rise, and I for one cannot see them ever going down again.I remember many years ago potatoes went up,and they were a staple as well, never to come down.Eggs, chicken, meat all gone up,every time petrol rises so do prices on food etc.I suppose I will see quite a rise in prices when I come over this time.
