A cayuco has been intercepted 110 miles to the south of Gran Canaria tonight. It is carrying 61 immigrants who will be brought into Los Cristianos: they are expected to arrive around 10am tomorrow morning. They are being brought to Tenerife because of their location, and distance from Gran Canaria.

The immigrants have now arrived at Los Cristianos on a rescue vessel, their own craft having been left to drift in bad seas.

As I type this a cayuco is being escorted by the Guardia into Los Christianos.
It is passing my house in Amarilla Golf NOW!!
I can't tell how many immigrants are on board but it is at least 50 or 60.

OK was away yesterday, but these two stories were in the news ...

One cayuco, with around 62 immigrants on board, 2 of whom appear to be minors, arrived at around 5.30 yesterday under its own steam at Tajao in Arico, while a second was intercepted near La Tejita beach, El Medano in Granadilla, with a further 50-60 on board, numbers on this second craft still to be confirmed.

An off-duty Guardia Civil officer alerted the security services to the cayuco that landed at Tajao, while the second cayuco was spotted before it reached the beach, and was intercepted by Guardia Civil patrols which towed it to Los Cristianos.

A later report says that the La Tejita craft arrived at Los Cristianos and it was confirmed that there were 76 on board, all adult males, one of whom has been taken to the El Mojón medical centre. This makes a total of 138 immigrants arriving in Tenerife yesterday.

The later report also confirms that there were 62 immigrants on the Tajao cayuco, but that there are 5 possible minors among them, not 2. Two of the adults have been taken to Candelaria Hospital, and another to Arico Medical Centre.

A cayuco carrying 76 immigrants was rescued at around 10.30 this morning by the Guardia Civil just off Arguineguín, a few miles south of Gran Canaria.

Among the 76 were 10 minors, 3 of whom needed to be transferred to the Gran Canaria Island Hospital.

Thirteen illegal immigrants were detained when they arrived in a patera at El Morrete, in San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Gran Canaria. All were adult males in good health, and tried to flee the minute the patera reached the beach, but were caught by Local Police.

UPDATE:
It's between 7 and 10 that have been captured, the rest are still being sought.

A cayuco carring 63 immigrants, 6 of them seemingly minors, was intercepted today after being spotted by a tuna-fishing vessel, and brought into Playa Santiago, in south La Gomera.

All appeared to be in good health, though three received medical help at the port. Some of them said that they had been at sea for five days since leaving Mauritania, and that they had come from a range of countries, including Gambia, Mali, Ethiopia and the Ivory Coast.
