Briton arrested for attempted murder of fellow tourist in Santiago del Teide
Policía Local arrested a 53-year-old Briton, identified as J.M., around 3am Friday morning for attempted murder in Santiago del Teide, after the man attacked another tourist with a large knife in the La Hondura tourist complex, apparently for talking to his girlfriend.
It seems that all three were staying at the same complex, and that J.M. became jealous and drew a 30cm knife on his imagined rival, trying to stab him. Police say that the attempted murder was foiled thanks to the rapid intervention of a security patrol. After being taken to the local police Comisaría, he was transferred to the Guardia Civil in Guía de Isora, and has started today to be processed through the Arona courts. JAA

Knives are freely available to buy over here though in most tourist shops? Remember remarking on it and wondering if customs back in uk would have anything to say...

Doesn't explain how or why the knife was there in the first place though.
In the apartment's kitchen perhaps? Knife crime isn't unusual as they are common domestic items (apart from all the more pertinent factors behind crimes of violence)
