Re: North Tenerife on Yellow Alert for heavy rain
This is one effect of the rain in Las Llanadas near La Oratava. I'm glad I wasn't driving along there when that happened. Further reports of damage to be found here. Amazingly, the police seem to have closed the road. It's a big hole - no doubt the police are looking into it.

Had to drive to Los Gigantes in the rain last night, from La Orotava over the mountain via El Tanque. It was a long trek. Took about 45 minutes longer than it normally does.
The drive home was fine.
I loved the heavy rain, although the lettuces in my garden didn't. The saying "Wet lettuce" springs to mind.
The authorities have been wonderful here. The clean up operation appears to have been very well coordinated.
The main road into puerto de la cruz (via the beach view tunnel) was closed off all day yesterday, and I would imagine that it still is at the moment as the rains were very heavy last night.

If there's not a Contractor in Tenerife who can deal with with, I know someone who can.
The mayor of Los Realejos, Oswaldo Amaro Luis, has announced a ban on drinking public supply water in the municipality due to sediment deposited as a result of the recent rains. The mayor stressed that the ban was a preventative measure, and that it will apply until water purity can be guaranteed for safe domestic consumption. JAA
Los Realejos water has again been deemed safe for domestic use.

Losses in the La Orotava Valley affected by the flood are assessed at around 14 million Euros, and authorities say that despite it now being 5 days since the worst of the weather, the situation is still far from being normalized.
Damage to several roads is apparently still to be repaired, and drinking water supplies still to be resolved in some areas.
It seems that the area of Las Llanadas, in the Los Realejos municipality, is still cut off because the roads continue to be blocked.

Re: North Tenerife on Yellow Alert for heavy rain
Hi, we were cought up in the storms, as we were coming back from Mt Teide at the time. The roar of the water down the Barranco Martianez was frightening.
Any update on the clearing up of the beach at Playa Jardin?
It's going to cost a couple of million Euros to put right, apparently, but this is just an initial estimate. They don't know, really, how much or how long. They are still cleaning away the immediate damage, and will be carrying out an evaluation after that.
