The authorities have clearly got the perception that somebody else is dealing with the problem. Having packs of homeless dogs would focus their attention on it, perhaps.
I have to agree with you too P.

What an awful plight for Eugenio though - He works very hard to keep all those dogs alive & well, with the rest of live arico helpers.. Debating the economic crisis, is not going to help bring back the water supplies.
I agree in thought with Perikles, packs of homeless dogs roaming around, would certainly focus the authorities attention on the problem - but not end in a positive manner for the dogs concerned, i,m sure.
If We can help in any way, shape, or form please ask Suzy!!! Those poor dogs - firstly abandoned- taken in loved & nursed back to health by Eugenio , now threatened yet again!!
Its time the authorities took on responsibility for all that happens on Their Island, including the revenue that tourism brings to it ( all be it depleted at this time). Holidaymakers would certainly not come back to a place where wild dogs roamed streets, stealing food.

Actually Briz, although I have some sympathy for your point of view, the welfare of stray animals is not a luxury, far from it.
As I understand it, under Spanish law, the welfare and care of stray animals is the responsibility of local councils.
The fact that councils choose to ignore their responsibilities is the reason volunteer organisations like Live Arico came to exist in the first place.
Times may be hard, but the law is the law and councils cannot simply obviate their responsibilities when it suits them.
For the most part I suspect our elected representatives are quite happy to let charities such as Live Arico pick up the tab, whether in times of feast or famine.

It looks like the water may go back on tomorrow. San Miguel, the Cabildo and the owners of the land met today. Lets hope so. LA is closer than ever to having its on plot of land on which to build a rescue centre. The hold up will be getting it passed for use as a refuge, but it seems the cabildo may step in and put pressure on the ayuntamiento concerned, as the cabildo does actually recognise the need for an official refuge in the south. So much red tape here its not true, but things are looking a little brighter.

Having read this thread. I despair at some of the Dumb-ass comments that have been made.
Well done to all In Arico and K9. You do a terriffic job and most of us appreciate the super work that you do.
If there is anything that Bitter and Twisted can do to help you raise money, please contact me.
Perhaps you would care to elaborate on the comments that you consider Dumb-ass.
The fact is that the animal charities whilst doing a much needed job can not find enough people to adopt the animals. The numbers of strays in care are increasing daily and the raising of money to pay for their care is not helping the problem.
Whilst they are caring for the animals the councils will not help. What is needed is a means of reducing the number of dogs in Tenerife and forcing dog owners to accept the responsibilities that go with ownership.
People (IMO) are willing to make donations of money or food but will not adopt a dog. For many it’s a case of chucking a few Euros in the hat and walking away from the problem.

Sorry, but I have read this thread again, and although there are differences of opinion, they are considered opinions. Nothing qualifies for this description except your post, and I despair at that.
