And isn't it ironic that the CANARIES get their name from the Latin word for DOGS! Perhaps the authorities can justify complete support for Live Arico and turn it around in to something positive based on the history of the islands.
It would seem the Authorities support Live Arico by sending them the stray dogs.
The dog story is a likely theory for the name, because Pliny (Roman times) reports seeing large dogs in his voyage to the islands ... it is often wondered whether he meant the Presa Canario.
Either way, what he was reporting when he linked the island's name with dogs was a "multitude of dogs of a huge size". Not the odd family pet then! ... and specifically Gran Canaria, actually ...
Tenerife was called Ninguaria, and identified not by dogs, but by its mountain's covering of perpetual snow, and always wrapped in cloud ... interesting comment on the weather here in Roman times.
I posted last week that the water had gone back on, so the short term problem is solved. Regarding the land, the lawyer is still trying to find out if the land in arico is protected, and why it is so cheap (€26k for 45,000 square metres) Like everything here its a slow process. We have €70k pledged from 4 benefactors so we really are ready to roll. We just need the right pieces of paper in place. As soon as there is news I will post, promise.
