The need for land on which to build Live Arico´s rescue centre has today become more urgent. As many will know, Eugenio and the dogs are on land owned by Amarilla Golf. The owners today cut the water supply, presumably in an attempt to force Eugenio off their land. Its difficult to evict him through legal channels as they would need the assistance of San Miguel ayuntamiento, and of course 230 homeless dogs would cause a problem for them. So they cut the water supply today. Forum member Apollo and her partner (both Live Arico committee members) were there at the time and started filling containers from another source on the golf course. Tony was physically attacked by one of the owners, but did not retaliate. They also emptied out the containers he had filled. Luckily, Live Arico has a lot of support from the owners of the villas on La Quinta, who rallied round and filled 100 8 litre containers with water from their own homes.
This highlights the need to aquire land at the earliest possible opportunity. Ironically, LA is closer than ever to a solution, if only these people could think a little further than their own bank accounts

Im afraid you cant at the moment, but rest assured the residents closest to the refuge are doing their upmost to supply fresh water for the dogs.
But thank you for being interested. Apparently the TV crews are going down there in the morning to report this on Canarian TV, so thats good. We just need land to build a rescue centre on. I dont understand why it is so difficult for the authorities to provide this, given that Eugenio would then be providing a public service. They are quite happy to call him when a stray animal is spoiling the tourists perception of Tenerife, yet cannot go the extra mile and make it that bit easier for the guy, who lives in circumstances none of us can comprehend
Im completely depressed now and need to sleep
Will check the thread tomorrow.

This is NOT a dig at Live Arico but, people should not be forced to have a charitable organisation on their land, especially if is to the detriment of their business.
If Oxfam or UNICEF set up a small hospice on a member’s balcony would they contest it? Of course they would.
The economic climate worldwide is unlikely to improve in the short term and the Canaries have been hit badly. The impact this has on all the local Businesses and Charities means that the luxury of supporting 250 dogs is questionable. If they are to loose their current accommodation then serious thought must be given to the humane disposal of the major portion of this group of animals to prevent further suffering.
It will be seen by many as a horrific solution but the dogs should not be made to suffer.
ps On a more positive note if every Tenerife Resident refused to purchase a drink or a meal for a week and sent the monies saved to Live Arico it would do a great deal of good

I hope something gets sorted soon Sue Some people forget that the animal sancturies are doing them a big favour, by keeping all the dangerous dogs off the streets, they would be in great danger if there were packs of homeless dogs roaming all over the place and then that would really give them something to complain about.

But the dogs could be removed by other less evasive (to the populance) means.

Agreed Cathy and obviously the authorities have forgotten too.

The authorities have clearly got the perception that somebody else is dealing with the problem. Having packs of homeless dogs would focus their attention on it, perhaps.
