Default Ex-mayor of Granadilla in court on corruption charges.

The socialist spokesman of Granadilla Council and its previous mayor, Jaime González Cejas, will be in court tomorrow on charges of bribery and corruption in the municipality relating to urbanistic licence approvals.

The case arises from a denuncia made by the public prosecutor against the previous socialist government, which itself followed the presentation of documentation from Coalición Canaria, which now leads the council.

The Socialists are saying this is just a case of political troublemaking, and Jaime González Cejas himself has declared himself calm and certain that everything will be cleared up satisfactorily.

Now, having lived here for over 6 years, do I understand why so many people in the UK were opposed to 'all powerful Mayors' like Red Ken and Boris. It's an invitation to corruption. It seems that every week one can read about a mayor in the Peninsular being arrested for corruption. This one will be the second this week I have heard of.

Simple answer NO! .

I think it was 5 years ago that the 'MARBELLA' corruption investigation started. There is no end in sight. I think the main offender will die of old age before he gets to court.

Thinking about it, I remember reading an article about a tiny Spanish village in the peninsular. It had been saved from dying by an influx of foreigners, mainly English but German and French as well. They out numbered the local's. The local Mayor was corrupt but nothing was done.
So the foreigners formed a political party put a retired Spanish man forward for mayor (For the locals I think) and the rest of the officials were English French and German. And voted the corrupt mayor out! Thats the way to do it.
So how many votes do we have in the south???????
