| Spanair announced today a viability plan which will mean redundancy for 1100 full-time workers as well as the cancellation of loss-making routes and the grounding of 15 planes. These measures should allow the business to save €90 million. The air transport sector crisis, combined with the price of fuel, have been named as the triggers for this drastic decision. Apart from the grounding of 15 planes, the routes to be cancelled are Madrid Barajas to Munich, Gerona, San Sebastián, Granada and Oviedo, as well as the links Barcelona-Zurich, Bilbao-Málaga and Bilbao-Jerez.
