Workers in Santiago del Teide are to take complaints of local Police Brutality to the EU
This isn't the first story like this to come from there. Wasn't there a story not so long ago about a Spanish family and the Police from this area?
Something not right
More negative press for the Santiago del Teide police in a news report about a policeman from that municipality arrested by Guía de Isora Guardia Civil for what is a confused account of illegal detention of a tourist.
It seems that the policeman stopped a Scandinavian tourist in the service station on the TF47, the Armeñime to Los Gigantes road just beyond Callao Salvaje, near the Marazul complex. She was held against her will there. The service station is in the Adeje municipality, so the Policía Local officer was operating out of area, as well as holding the woman unconstitutionally against her will.
The only conceivable connection with the Santiago del Teide municipality is that the woman is known to have been staying in a tourist complex in Puerto de Santiago. The incident occurred at 5am on Sunday, but the officers reasons are not known to the press at the moment. The woman denounced the detention to the Adeje Guardia Civil, who in turn passed it over to their Guía de Isora colleagues to investigate. The officer, 34 years old, was arrested at 4.30pm yesterday.
As the journalist writing the report says:
Quote:
This type of situation doesn't exactly generate a good image for the security forces, especially the Santiago del Teide Policía Local, a body which has suffered a series of controversial cases in recent years. Moreover, a crime of such characteristics doesn't contribute to improving Tenerife's tourist image either.
EDIT:
The woman is a 24-year-old Norwegian, and her denuncia says that she bumped into the officer when she was having a few drinks in Playa de la Arena, and that he offered to take her to her hotel. During the journey, the policeman asked for a kiss and when she refused, he turned the car around and stopped in the petrol station where he physically assaulted her and after driving further eventually left her in an isolated place. She eventually managed to get a bus and then a taxi back to her hotel.

Well done to the Santiago del Teide local police, who have now made Tenerife's name famous throughout the Scandinavian countries which we were hoping would compensate in some part for the fall in Brits holidaying here.
Unfortunately they have made the island's name infamous not just famous, and if Scandinavians continue to come in numbers despite THIS sort of press in the Nordic countries it will be despite not because of these idiots who seem to feel themselves above the law.
It's like the bloody wild west. When will someone deal with them?
