Police Brutality in Santiago del Teide ?
This disturbing report is of a press conference held by a family in Guia de Isora, complaining of a campaign of brutality by the police. It started in March last year when a policeman gave them a fine for parking, and according to the family, consisted of death threats, physical agression including punching and electric pistols, and the father had been beaten to unconsciousness.
The family also claimed that there had been various witnesses to the agression, none of whom were willing to come forward for fear of reprisals.
This all sounds terrible, but it seems there is possibly far more to it than that, because the family fail to mention that the complaint was dealt with in the court in Arona, and a judgement in favour of the police was made, sentencing one member of the family to 15 months in prison!
Comments on the article also point out that this all seems very odd, deriving from a parking fine, and veiled references to the Mafia are made. Everybody appears to agree that it all sounds very fishy indeed.
Can anybody else throw some light on this case?

They sound almost as bad as some Irish Police, a report in the Sunday Tribune last week highlighted how Garda wrong doing cost the Irish tax payer €24 million in the last three years, are Police the same everywhere?
But they get the job done, no political correctness issues.

Well, I have had quite a few occasions when I have had to deal with the police, and they have always been friendly and polite, even helpful, on each occasion. Mind you, on none of these occasions was I actually drunk nor aggressive.

I quite liked the Guardia too - until two of them held me down and another smashed me in the face...
I remember in the UK a good friend of mine constantly preaching that they were all corrupt - I foolishly doubted him.... He was arrested and threatened with a charge of assaulting a police officer and worse if he didnt accept the charge of breaching the peace.
He stuck to his guns and ended up with a £1,000 fine and a criminal record...
Thing is - I know this guy inside out - we served together - and he absolutely, without a shadow of a doubt did not assault a police officer.
