Default Spain to invest money in Canarian airports.

The Ministry of Fomento (development?) is to invest more than 3,000,000,000 euros between now and the year 2012 (or 2020?) in airports in the Canaries. No figures are given specifically for Tenerife (the minister Magdalena Álvarez hasn't got there yet on her tour) but they estimate that for the whole of the Canaries, passenger numbers will increase from 21 million to 50 or 55 million by the year 2020.

I wonder how they estimate these figures for future airport use. It sounds like a large investment, which must be good news.

Further details of investment in Tenerife airports here. It appears that they will spend 86,000,000 euros on Tenerife North, and 152,000,000 on Tenerife South, between now and 2020. This seems quite small slice of the investment in the Canaries overall.

It is envisaged that TFS will be able to receive 15 million passengers per year, Tenerife North 7 million (from 4.1 million in 2007). TFS capacity will increase from 31 operations per hour to 68.

No explicit statement about a second runway.
