Default The Tenerife Port Authority has activated emergency procedures after an oil spill in Santa Cruz

The Santa Cruz Port Authority is as I type implementing its emergency plan to control the spread of an oil spill which occurred in the early hours of this morning when a valve on a container ship broke while it was being filled with 300 tons of fuel oil. The spill itself is of 2,000 litres.

Work is going on currently, so I'll update as and when there are new reports.

Bit of an update ...

The accident happened at 1am last night and a clean-up operation is continuing. The Port Authority is saying that it will keep working until the cleaning operation has finished.
