Los Tarajales beach in Los Cristianos is given the go-ahead by the Dept of Costas
The Department of Costas has given its approval to the project for Los Tarajales beach in Los Cristianos. The mayor of Arona, José Alberto González Reverón, explained that "there won't be any compulsory purchases without prior agreement with owners of affected buildings".
The next step will be a declaration of impact, which will take around a year, and then works will be put out to tender. There will be two semi-submerged dikes in natural stone which will be merged into the surroundings, and sand will be brought from Los Cristianos and Las Vistas beaches.
The project will cost around 10 million Euros and will be linked to other local projects involving a promenade to join the Las Vistas and El Camisón beaches, improvements and restoration of the El Callao beach and adaptation of the bay, whose first part is already finished from the port to the barranco de Aquilino, and whose remaining works are still awaiting the drafting of a plan for the release of plots of land and the demolition of buildings which occupy maritime-terrestrial space.
The mayor assured everyone that the Ayuntamiento will defend the rights of owners and ensure that they get a decent price for their properties. For these compulsory purchase orders and those further orders which will served for the works to Los Tarajales beach, a sum of 30 million Euros will be necessary. In this respect, fourteen buildings are affected, though one of these is Cristianmar, which incorporates 60 apartments and several commercial locales.

Sounds like the offer you can't refuse...
... or has it lost something in translation?
Was a loose translation of:
Quote:
no se harán expropiaciones sino que se han conseguido acuerdos verbales con los propietarios de las edificaciones afectadas para la cesión a cambio de alguna concesión
