In a meeting of EU Foreign Ministers on 27 November in Paris, the Spanish Government will propose that the Canaries should be nominated as the venue for a Euro-African business conference. The proposed conference would see 300 European and 350 African business leaders meet to discuss the strengthening of commercial and economic relations, not least to reduce the pressure of immigration into Europe.
The announcement was made by Spain's Foreign Minister, Miguel Ángel Moratinos in Gran Canaria earlier today. Moratinos also said that within a reasonable timescale an Institute of African-Latin American Debate would be inaugurated in Tenerife.
