Default The route of the Southern Train through Arona has been published

The Mayor of Arona, José Alberto González Reverón, and the Cabildo Minister for Economy, Carlos Alonso, have presented the project for the route of the train through Arona. The presentation was made in the Cultural Centre, Los Cristianos, yesterday.

The train will enter Arona parallel to the motorway, on the right hand side of it when facing Los Cristianos. At the Guaza junction, there will be a tunnel under the motorway and the train will cross the TF1 there, and then cross underneath Guaza mountain, and then onto the interchange in Los Cristianos. The subterranean works will not affect the protected environment of Guaza mountain.

The whole railway line will be 80 kilometres running between the capital and the Torviscas area, with seven stops, one train every 15 minutes, and a total travel time of 45 minutes.

I read in last weeks Island Connections that requests for stops at Güimar and Los Cristianos had been rejected by the Cabildo.

We'll probably know for sure if / when it's finished!

Island Connections is out of date. This new presentation is the now approved project, after previous proposals had been rejected.

The English press is usually out of date!

Work is currently scheduled to start in 2011 ... there's no estimated completion date!

hmmm...2011...which means they will start with digging a hole somewhere and then standing in front of it, staring at it for a while, possibly scratching their heads and chins, not knowing what to do next. after about 4 years of indecision they might continue working on the tracks....

I heard there was also going to be a station aligning at the " new planned beach" at los cristianos next to the Gran Arona

Apparently this completion times for both are the same.
